The Story of Amaravati
Amaravati, meaning "Place of Immortals," is the capital city of Andhra Pradesh. The region has historical significance, with the ancient Buddhist site of Amaravathi located nearby, which was a major center of Buddhism during the Satavahana dynasty.
Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 to create Telangana, the state government selected this region between Vijayawada and Guntur as the site for the new capital. The location was chosen for its:
- Strategic location between two major cities
- Proximity to Krishna River for water resources
- Excellent connectivity via road, rail, and air
- Flat terrain suitable for urban development
